Sculptural Form, Material, Story and Symbol
Jiří Frič is a Czech sculptor whose work explores the relationship between mass, form, material and space. His practice grows out of his education in stage design and painting, extensive international experience, and sustained sculptural work with stainless steel, stone, glass and water.
A sculptor with extensive international experience, translating symbols, the memory of place and material into a distinctive artistic form.

Jiří Frič’s artistic practice has its own story, form and expression; it naturally engages with space and becomes part of it.
Jiří Frič represents one of the defining artistic strands of the Artforest brand —
a family platform that brings together the work of Jiří and Vilém Frič.
Artforest provides a unified platform for presenting sculptures, fountains, objects, paintings, glass works and original installations to galleries, architects, collectors, investors and the public realm.
Jiří Frič, MgA., was born in Prague in 1949. He studied at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Prague and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where he focused on stage design and painting.
Throughout his exhibition, display-design and international work, he continued to develop sculptures, art objects, fountains and material-based work. In recent years, he has returned to independent sculpture with renewed focus and greater room for his own artistic ideas.
„A tak jeho objekty, obrazy a plastiky jsou živými partnery člověka, jsou nám od prvního spatření podivuhodně blízké, poněvadž se zrodily z pocitu člověka naší doby. Vytváří dílo otevřené do našeho světa a skutečného života, dílo, jehož integrální součástí se musí stát každý, kdo k němu přichází.“
Quote based on art historian František Dvořák’s text on Jiří Frič’s work, 1985.
sculptural form, mass, a scenographer’s sense of space
symbol, story, memory of place, torso, outline, sign
formal stillness, the permanence of the object, work with material and scale

Jiří Frič’s work should be understood from its own foundations: his education in stage design and painting, his exhibition and display practice, international projects, and long-standing work with material in sculpture and object-making.
An important aspect of his work is symbolic form: outlines, torsos, shells, signs and traces of the body. Rather than retelling a motif for effect, he translates it into a solid sculptural form.
A significant chapter is his international experience, work at EXPO world fairs and projects connected with the memory of specific places, including the glass River / Crystal River in New Delhi.

Exhibitions and international projects broadened his sensitivity to scale, technical execution and the meaning of a work in a specific place. Sculpture, art objects, fountains, glass and painting form a continuous artistic line in his practice.

Selected works can be viewed in person by prior arrangement. Photographs convey form and material, but the true scale, light and atmosphere of a work are best experienced in space.
