The story of the work
Jiří Frič’s Body condenses the human form into a distinctive, almost symbolically legible silhouette. Organic curves, cutouts, and tension between parts evoke a torso without the artist aiming for anatomical description. The form is simplified and slightly exaggerated, so the body remains recognizable but acquires a unique, subtly humorous expression.
Body also originates from a direct search for form within the material. The artist shapes individual stainless steel pieces, assembles them into a whole, and welds them; subsequent grinding and polishing complete the sculpture's surface.
It is precisely in this process that the line, proportion, and character of the work are determined. Jiří Frič respects the possibilities of the metal, but simultaneously guides it toward an organic silhouette where artisanal precision combines with sculptural abbreviation.
Each work is created through the artist's personal and direct work with the material—from the initial search for form to the final surface treatment.
