Vilém Frič treats the surface of the tray as a sculptural material. By bending it, he creates terrain;
with fine welds, he suggests the movement of herds, and with thicker layers of metal, he models more prominent landscape features.
The openings may resemble lakes or oases. The alternation of smooth and structured areas invites
careful observation: small details merge into an imaginary landscape where everyone can find their own
story.
The partially polished stainless steel captures light, and thanks to the curved surface, it reflects the colors of fruit or objects
placed within. Their reflections spread across the surface, enlivening the metal relief. The tray’s contents
thus become part of an artistic composition that transforms with lighting and viewing angle.
Is it a tray, a relief, or an object? It is precisely the intermingling of these possibilities that defines the artist’s sculptural
approach to design. The piece serves daily use while simultaneously acting as a standalone object, even
when empty. Direct work with the material gives each piece in the limited collection its own
articulation, structure, and reflection. From this uniqueness arises the character of exclusive designer
work.
